I should first say that I don't really like garage sales-attending or hosting. This was my daughters idea but of course her interest in sticking around dwindled after a few hours. Garage sales require talking to lots of people you don't know and in some case very strange people you don't know. Not high on my list of fun.
I bet someone could write a pretty funny blog about some of the people at garage sales. The good news is that I messed up on my Craig's list posting so never had the circling cars and rush of people right at "opening". We luckily were still able to get enough local traffic to sell the good stuff (and the cookies).
The best people story had to be the older gentleman who not only brought us some amazing smoked salmon but fell in love with my friend w/i 5 seconds. Really what's a mere 32 year age difference at this point. The man made us a fresh Greek salad, so what if he wanted to feel her up in front of the other garage sale attendees. I think she was close to two marriage proposals during one little garage sale.
Anyway how do you say thank you to someone for talking to people who want to talk you down a quarter or say grope you?

Yes we used the smoked salmon gifted by my friends new admirer.
